Taste of Saskatchewan Chef's Series Demonstrates Publics' Increased Interest in Food
Adele Buettner - Farm & Food Care Saskatchewan

The CEO of Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan says the public's response to last week's "Taste of Saskatchewan Chef's Series" has shown how the publics' interest in food has grown.
The 20th anniversary of Taste of Saskatchewan, which wrapped up Sunday, was high lighted by the inaugural edition of the "Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan Chef's Series."
The new event featured daily cooking demonstrations during the noon hour and black box chef competitions, in which two chef's faced off head to head, in the evening.
Farm and Food Care Saskatchewan CEO Adele Buettner says the cooking demonstrations were very well received and the competitions were extremely popular.

We see the change in the public's interest in food has been a gradual change but certainly very evident.
When we think back to 10 or 15 years ago there was 1 or 2 shows on TV that were pertaining to cooking and to food and there were a handful of magazines that the main theme would be recipes and food but now we have networks that are dedicated to food.
We have racks of magazines and books for home foodies, for those that are professional and certainly the interest has elevated in more recent years but very much continues to move forward because there's always new shows and new events relevant to food.
We even see that in our communities.
There are more evening dinners, there are golden plates now in Saskatchewan so the interest from consumers has really changed.
I think part of that may be because people are more aware of nutrition.
They're entertaining at home more as well and wanting to be able to present foods that are palatable and that are interesting, and when people do go out and enjoy a meal, often people want to come home and emulate what they've tried in a restaurant.

Buettner says the consumers' interest in food has certainly increased and we see that continuing.
