Manitoba Harvest Now 85 Percent Complete
Dennis Lange - Manitoba Agriculture

Farmscape for October 4, 2023

Manitoba Agriculture reports 85 percent of this year's crop has now been harvested.
Manitoba Agriculture released its weekly crop report yesterday.
Dennis Lange, a pulse and soybean specialist with Manitoba Agriculture and editor of the provincial crop report, says provincially the harvest now sits at 85 percent complete with most of the cereals wrapped up.

Quote-Dennis Lange-Manitoba Agriculture:
If you start of with the cereals and yields for cereals, in particular spring wheat, have ranged anywhere from 30 to 80 bushels an acre and in some areas that did receive more moisture, we're looking at 90 bushels an acre in some of those fields that got those timely rains.
There are also some lows in that mix as well for spring wheats where, in some of the driest areas, they're as low as 16 bushels an acre but those areas just did not receive any moisture.
Protein quality on the spring wheat is sitting around 13 and a half percent and higher and grading number one and number two Canada.
Oats is ranging anywhere from 80 to 130 bushels an acre and, again same type of thing, in the real low areas with low moisture we're sitting at 60 bushels an acre with fields that did not receive any significant moisture at the critical time.
Barley yields ranged from 70 to 100 bushels an acre so pretty strong there.
Most of the spring wheat is being rated fair to good so that's looking very positive there.
The grain corn is sitting at about 15 percent harvested in the central region with early yield reports in some of those areas anywhere from 80 to 200 bushels an acre.
Again, all moisture related through that.
Canola is at 86 percent harvested provincially.
Overall yields range anywhere from 20 to 60 bushels per acre with a lot of the canola coming in that 40-to-50-bushel range.
Flax, right now, we have about 39 percent of the acres being harvested provincially and yields range anywhere from 20 to 25 bushels an acre.
Soybeans right now is about 69 percent harvested provincially.
Yields anywhere from 20 to 30 on the early harvested fields and 30 to 60 on the fields that were harvested over the last week.
Again, it's very dependant on moisture.

Lange says there has been no harvesting done on sunflowers yet but desiccation has occurred and we'll see some harvesting of sunflowers in the next two weeks or so.
